Kansas treats nonresident whitetail differently than Missouri. Permits are allocated by lottery once a year. The application window opens in April and closes near the end of the month. Results post in late May or June.
You apply for a Deer Management Unit. Linn County, where the La Cygne property sits, falls in Unit 11. Verify the unit on the KDWP map before you apply.
You also buy a nonresident Kansas hunting license, and hunter education applies if you were born on or after July 1, 1957.
How we handle it. Put a draw hold on a La Cygne week in March. If you draw, the hold becomes your deposit. If you miss, the hold moves to the Liberal, Missouri property for the same week, where permits are over the counter. You hunt either way.
Kansas residents skip all of this. Resident permits are over the counter, and La Cygne is an hour from Johnson County.
